MEALS WITH JESUS - Meals as Hope | Lucy Riche 2020

MEALS WITH JESUS - Meals as Hope | Lucy Riche 2020

“I think sometimes as the wider Church, we are actually quite good at fulfilling people’s physical needs. We have food banks, and community dinners, and we have Christmas hampers, and we invite people over to eat together. And these are all really important and necessary things as a Church. But I do wonder if that’s the easiest part of all of this. We like practical things that we can do. The harder part is meeting people’s emotional and spiritual needs.
Jesus didn’t just meet people’s physical needs. He healed, He spoke truth, He offered forgiveness of sins - this was the greater hope than the food itself.  Remember food is temporary, the 5,000 would have been hungry again.
The only real hope we can offer people is Jesus.” - Lucy Riche

If you're interested in the questions Lucy references at the end, here they are for you! We'd love to chat with you too.

> Do you know what the Hope is that Jesus Christ, our Messiah, offers us?
> Do you carry and live out of the Hope of Jesus in your own life?
> Do you prioritise your relationship with God, his Word and worship, and are you open to his correction in your life?
> How does your life look when things get hard?
> Are there areas you are still fearful in, still clinging to earthly hopes instead of in Jesus?
> Do you really understand what his life, death and resurrection mean for you?
> How do you feel about sharing the hope you have found in Jesus with others?
> Do you feel under resourced?

MEALS WITH JESUS - Meals as Sacrifice | Tracey Hunt 2020

MEALS WITH JESUS - Meals as Sacrifice | Tracey Hunt 2020

"All of this points to the fact that Jesus is starting a new community, based on His sacrifice. This meal both creates the community, and it keeps it a focus which lasts throughout time." Tracey Hunt dives into the importance of Communion in the context of community + meals.

MEALS WITH JESUS - Meals with Mission | Dave Wiggins 2020

Meals as Mission - “working with God and others to recognise and grow God’s Kingdom here and now”
What is a missional meal? It starts with an invitation; starts with accepting an invitation, or giving an invitation.
What are these meals? They’re meals that operate in the flow of generosity; they’re not that keeping score, they’re not that repayment, they’re that blessing.- Dave Wiggins

MEALS WITH JESUS - Community - Ian Waddington 2020

MEALS WITH JESUS - Community - Ian Waddington 2020

“Which one of us can face the reality of our sins, if we’re not first of all assured of Christ’s love for us, made tangible in the love from others” - it’s in knowing him that we can know ourselves... that’s why the Church’s expressed disapproval of sin always needs to be in the context of acceptance of the people concerned.”
- Ian Waddington

MEALS WITH JESUS - It's not about the food - Tony Plews 2020

MEALS WITH JESUS - It's not about the food - Tony Plews 2020

“It’s not about the food, because it isn’t. It’s actually about our identity as the people of God, and our mission as the people of God... Jesus embodies living in intimate relationships with all kinds of people - the socially respectable and the non-respectable. His friends, and His enemies. And He treated them all with respect even if they did not ‘deserve’ it. And we are called to do that…”  - Tony Plews

MEALS WITH JESUS - Overview - Kris Gilbert

MEALS WITH JESUS - Overview - Kris Gilbert

“When we talk about how we want to live out the mission of Jesus, one of the things that we think about is how can we effectively do that in our natural rhythms of life. And if all of us have to eat, if all of us are around the table from time to time, we need to be thinking about as followers of Jesus, how we can use that time to be faithful to the mission that he has called us to do.”
- Kris Gilbert
